Today marks another trip around the sun for me, and I find myself reflecting not just on the passage of time, but on the unexpected journey that has brought us together through these words.
Happy Birthday Mike! Thank you for taking the time to provide logical analysis in these seemingly illogical times. And thank you for prioritizing clarity over polarity, insight over insult. Resorting to name calling and cheap shots is at best lazy, at worst detrimental. Sifting through the barrage-of-now in search of motive and meaning takes real work. I appreciate you, and will continue to share your essays when and where I can. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Wishing you a Happy Birthday -- first and foremost. And thank you for another beautiful offering.
I'm doubt that I'm alone in being exceedingly grateful that you did not move on to another high tech gig! Your essays are a joy to read and a lifeline in the midst of this bewildering time. You are one of the very few people I've read who can write about the facts of the moment in such an articulate and poignant way. Please continue. Your clarity and caring are helping illumine the way and, opening a window to, as you say, "a community of minds holding the tension between what is and what ought to be."
Ok, I swear Substack showed this post (not the comment) dated as the 21st when I first looked at it, which is usually what happens when the author is in a different time zone, and why I got confused.
Happy birthday, Mike. Thank you for your work that helps keep us grounded. Glad you didn’t move on to another tech position. You’re needed here much more in the conversation of understanding & resistance. (You Hegelian 😃)
Very grateful for your work. It helps me going in my day-to-day while reason and common knowledge is relentlessly assaulted

Happy birthday to you, from the big, new dysfunctional family you’ve created here in the digital ink world. Hugs all around.
Now, who brought the cake.
Happy birthday - to both of us.
If it's the 21st already where you and Mike are, then happy birthday to all three of us!
